In June 2026, the first stage of the container terminal of the Kazakh port of Aktau will officially be put into operation. The design capacity is 500 thousand TEU per year, which makes it the largest container hub in the Caspian Sea. The terminal is equipped with automated transshipment equipment and an intelligent container yard management system, connected to the Caspian sea lines, the railway and road network of Kazakhstan, opening the multimodal corridor “China - Kazakhstan - Caspian - Caucasus - Europe”. Chinese exports of electromechanical products, textiles, photovoltaic modules travel by sea through the ports of Lianyungang and Tianjin to Aktau, and then are distributed by rail or road throughout Kazakhstan, Central and Western Asia; Kazakh wheat, petroleum products and mineral raw materials flow in the opposite direction to China. Delivery time is reduced by 10 days, costs are reduced by 12% compared to a purely rail route.
