In January 2026, the export of fruits and vegetables through the Khorgos border crossing reached peak values; daily, up to a thousand tons of apples, citrus fruits, pomelo and other products were sent through the automobile checkpoint to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and other countries. Despite the severe frosts at the border crossing (down to -15°C), the inspection area is busy: customs officers conduct random checks of refrigerated containers to ensure product quality. Fruit and vegetable products come from all over China, are consolidated in Khorgos, undergo pre-cooling and customs declaration, after which TIR vehicles deliver them directly to supermarkets and markets in Central Asia. In 2025, the export of fruits and vegetables through Khorgos exceeded 300 thousand tons; in the first quarter of 2026, the growth was 25% in annual terms. The strong growth is supported by improvements in refrigeration infrastructure and increased efficiency of customs clearance.
