In the first quarter of 2026, cargo turnover at the Irkeshtam border crossing increased by 35% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.2 million tons, which indicates significant results of intelligent modernization. The border crossing is equipped with an intelligent inspection system, unmanned vehicle scales, electronic seals and full video surveillance, and the concept of “contactless border crossing” has been implemented. The level of X-ray scanning has reached 80%, manual inspection with opening of containers has been significantly reduced. The customs authorities of China and the Kyrgyz side exchange data in real time, automatic comparison of bills of lading, invoices and declarations, as well as mechanisms for “two-stage declaration” and “consolidated payment of duties” have been introduced. The average time for customs clearance has been reduced from three hours to 45 minutes. Green corridors have been established for perishable goods, e-commerce shipments and bulky goods, ensuring priority passage for urgent goods. Irkeshtam has emerged as a key gateway to the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan corridor, supporting the high growth rate of China-Kyrgyzstan trade.
