In the first quarter of 2026, the volume of container handling at Chinese-Kazakh railway border crossings (Khorgos, Alashankou) increased by 25% year on year, reaching 340 thousand TEU. At border crossings, the modernization of equipment for transshipment between wide and standard gauge has been completed: new automated gantry cranes, intelligent sorting lines and container positioning systems have been installed. The efficiency of transshipment has increased by 30%, the transshipment time of one container has been reduced from 40 to 25 minutes. The China–Europe and China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan trains are formed and disbanded here. In 2025, more than 1,500 trains passed through Chinese-Kazakh border crossings; in the first quarter of 2026, the growth was 18% in annual terms. Railway border crossings are connected to road and sea transport, forming a multimodal hub that supports high growth rates of Sino-Kazakh and transit trade.
